Why Vegan?

My name is Jaimee Hurless and I am the owner of Garden Pastries. I have always been interested in sustainability, and turned vegetarian in May of 2020 after discovering vegan food that I did not have to compromise my taste buds for. Going veg ignited my passion for food as I started experimenting with recipes. My love for sustainability and baking combined when I started vegan baking in December of 2021. I eventually started Garden Pastries in April of 2024.

After learning that I am a vegan baker people usually ask, “why vegan?” For me, this is about doing what I can. A plant based diet, and even a low meat diet, can limit your carbon footprint. Every animal-free meal you eat helps stop the of depletion of our earth’s natural resources, even if you are not vegan or vegetarian.

I started Garden Pastries to pursue my passion for food and sustainability. I want everybody to try vegan food and realize that it can be so good, not only for your taste buds, but for the future of our planet.
